Imani Vaughn-Jones was raised in Omaha, Nebraska. The daughter of an organizer, she was exposed to a wide range of activism and forms of assembly within the Black community. She also interacted largely with the Latinx and Hispanic community, with her mother being the first non-Hispanic board member of the Nebraska Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Since then, she’s had roots in intersectional activism with a focus on using theatre and film to help heal and give a voice to Black people. She is an award-winning writer and actress currently based in Atlanta.
Imani studied acting for two years with the Guthrie Theatre and the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities before leaving the program and pursuing a degree in Creative Writing with a focus on Screenwriting. Her short film Valencia has won “Best Short Script” at several international film festivals and she can be seen on some of your favorite shows such as Lee Daniel’s Star, Marvel’s The Gifted, and recurring on NBC’s Ordinary Joe. In her free time, Imani loves to read, knit, and use Instagram, where she has over 12k followers.
